My name is Miss Sweitzer. I am excited to have your child in my third grade classroom; we have a great learning community this year. One way that you can contribute to our classroom learning from home is to be knowledgeable about the content we are learning and to extend it at home. This website, Math and Literacy Together, provides information on and resources for our current topic in math class and links it with literacy to deepen your child's understanding of our topic and to practice his or her many math and literacy skills. This website provides three main types of resources: resources for you, resources for your child, and resources for you and your child. My goal is to help you learn as much about our math unit as possible so that learning can continue efficiently at home. I also want to expand your understanding on our classroom literacy which involves not just reading and writing but also speaking and listening. The various activities, games, and readings on this website will support you in integrating math and literacy into home activities for your child.
Our current math unit is statistics and data analysis. We have been collecting, representing, and interpreting data in many ways. For example, we have been learning about data collection methods and representing our data with tables, bar graphs, and line graphs. The learning outcomes from this unit will be the foundation for statistics and data analysis in future grades. Data analysis activities extend our learning into other subjects such as science. As you will discover on this website, literacy is very important in our math unit. I aim to provide my students with many "real world" opportunities to collect, represent, write about, and talk about data so that when we analyze it, the findings are concrete and meaningful. This will lead into more abstract mathematics that students encounter in higher grades. I am excited to share this website with you so that you and your child can strengthen both of your understandings on data analysis with an additional emphasis on literacy. Please explore the information underneath the tabs above to see what my website has to offer.

Learning Standards
Below are selected standards from the Pennsylvania Standards Aligned System (SAS) and Common Core that guide our curriculum for math and literacy. The website that provides these standards is the Pennsylvania Department of Education and can accessed by the button below. These standards show what your child should be learning in third grade. The content of this website supports the learning goals of these standards.

About Me
My name is Miss Sweitzer. I graduated from Millersville University in 2013 and am certified as a teacher for Early Childhood Pre-K to 4th grade and Special Education Pre-K to 8th grade. I enjoy teaching because I like to bring an excitement for learning to my classroom; I learn as much from my students as they do from me! Outside of the classroom I like to ride horses, spend time with family, and play the guitar. I also love to read.
If you need to contact me, you can email me via my school email [email protected] or call our school at 123-456-7890 and ask to be connected to my extension. I will return your email within one school day and will return your call (if I miss it) as soon as possible. |
